Our History

Our History

In the late1960’s a group of seminarians visited a camp program in New Hampshire by the same name. They were so moved by their experience that they returned home and started Camp Fatima of New Jersey, which was officially incorporated in 1971. While both programs are called Camp Fatima, they are completely separate organizations with no affiliation between the two camps. Camp Fatima of New Jersey has been in continuous operation since its inception in 1968.

Camp Fatima is a private, not for profit, non-sectarian organization. Annually Camp Fatima offers two one-week overnight camping sessions for school-aged (6-21) children with disabilities. Camp Fatima also offers four weekends throughout the spring and fall for adults with disabilities. This program is for adults from age 23 and above. Camp Fatima serves over 100 children and over 60 adults annually.

Camp Fatima is funded by private donations and fundraising activities. Camp Fatima does not receive any government funding and no participant is ever charged a fee to attend.

Camp Fatima is run completely by volunteers, from the Board of Directors to the staff at the summer camp and adult weekend programs. Volunteers range in age from 16 to 70+. Each year over 400 volunteers give their time and talents to create the magic of Camp Fatima known as “Fatimagic”.
